The
Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina continuously monitors the
epidemiological situation regarding animal diseases in the regions from which
consignments are imported into our country and issues bans on imports from
those areas in the event of an infectious disease. Bosnia and Herzegovina has
the official status as a country free from African Horse Sickness (AHS) granted
by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). AHS is a notifiable disease
in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In accordance with the annual Program of measures
for animal health and their implementation, which is adopted every year by the
Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is prescribed that during the
suppression of infectious anemia in horses, all animals must be examined for
clinical signs of African horse sickness, Venezuelan encephalitis, durina,
sakagia and leptospirosis.
In
case of suspicion of AHS or a confirmed case, the measures are prescribed by
the Rulebook on measures for the detection, suppression and eradication of
African horse sickness ("Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina",
No. 17/11).
With
the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of recognizing and early
detection of African horse sickness and introducing all ungulate owners, we
hereby inform you below about the way to prevent, recognize and act in case of
occurrence of this disease in BiH, which is of great importance in order to
maintain this status and possible early detection of the presence of these
diseases.
